Another year wiser…

This past year seems to have gone by in a blur. Some new directions taken: notably, in early summer I got married! New art was made. Many miles were ridden on my bike. And over the course of the Spring and Fall semesters of 2018, I worked with about 60 students at Eastern CT State University, the majority of them over the two terms in Studio Art Intro. I enjoy the challenge of working with non art majors. In the context of a required art class at a liberal arts university I strive to help my students (mostly Freshmen) to realize their own inner talents, and to develop a better understanding of the wider scope of visual language. But even more to foster problem solving skills, which they can take into their respective fields: the essence of what my Art+Design practice is all about.

Also during the year I participated in 4 different group exhibitions. 2 shows were at a new gallery called #Local Gallery With A Twist. I am delighted to be involved with this vibrant new arts concern in Easthampton, MA, the town where my studio is located. I also participated in 2 alumni shows in a sharp, new gallery space at my old high school, Woodstock Academy in Woodstock, CT. As part of the recent show there, I gave a PowerPoint talk to a large group of students about my development as an artist. Afterward I had the opportunity to visit several class rooms in the art department to see what students are creating there. I was impressed and it was good to see the many changes to the school itself. Even more, though, to reflect on my experience in the 4 decades since I was an earnest teenager, dreaming of life beyond the small town, preparing for art school in the big city, which has ultimately led me on this meandering life path as a creative…  :-)

Happy to announce that the coming year 2019 has some interesting things on tap:
- January I will have a painting, Body of Wisdom, featured on the cover of  Storytelling Magazine.
- March I will have artwork on the cover of Meat For Tea magazine. There will be an accompanying exhibit (reception Sat. 4/9/19) at Sonelab, Recording Studios in Easthampton, MA. Stay tuned…
- May I will have a solo exhibit at the New England Visionary Artists Museum in Northampton, MA.
- September I will have a solo show at #Local Gallery With A Twist.

Looking forward to these and other potential artful opportunities opening up in as yet unlooked-for ways…

In the interim, I send out warm holiday wishes with hopes for a brighter, more profound New Year!
